Dr. Apollo Oduol
Dr. Apollo is an experienced small animal veterinarian with a diverse background in both the veterinary and pharmaceutical industries. After spending several years working in the pharmaceutical field in both Kenya and Canada, he decided to return to his true passion — veterinary medicine. To further strengthen his clinical knowledge and prepare for North American certification, he attended the VSTEP program at the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, where he refined and enhanced his veterinary skills.
Since obtaining his North American veterinary license in 2010, Dr. Apollo has worked in several busy 24-hour veterinary hospitals throughout the GTA, gaining extensive experience in emergency and general practice medicine. His experiences inspired him to pursue a more personal and community-focused approach through private practice, where he enjoys building lasting relationships with pets and their families.
Dr. Apollo has a special passion for working with our four-legged furry companions and has particular interests in internal medicine, dentistry, and surgery. He believes one of the most rewarding aspects of veterinary medicine is educating pet owners and helping them make informed decisions that allow their pets to live longer, healthier, and happier lives.
Known for his compassionate and approachable nature, Dr. Apollo is dedicated to providing high-quality care while ensuring both pets and owners feel comfortable and supported throughout every visit.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Apollo is an avid sports fan who enjoys spending time outdoors hiking and exploring nature. He also has a love for wildlife and enjoys going on safari adventures and traveling with his family whenever possible. In his spare time, he often gives back to the community by volunteering with the OSPCA.
Dr. Gilbert Buenviaje
Dr. Gilbert’s passion has always been providing exceptional care to our four-legged family members — including exotic animals. With more than 20 years of experience in veterinary medicine, he continues to pursue advanced learning and professional growth. To further enhance his expertise in medicine and surgery, he completed additional training under the mentorship of the Ontario Veterinary College’s VSTEP program in Guelph.
His diverse professional background as a veterinarian, professor, researcher, and social worker has given him a unique and compassionate approach to patient care. Dr. Gilbert combines extensive medical knowledge with strong communication and interpersonal skills, allowing him to thoughtfully address the complexities of animal diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care. Throughout his career in the Philippines, he received numerous awards and citations recognizing his valuable contributions to veterinary medicine and education.
Academically, Dr. Gilbert holds a Diploma in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph. He also earned both a Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Veterinary Pathology and Microbiology from James Cook University in Townsville, Australia, reflecting his deep commitment to advancing veterinary science and pathology.
Dr. Gilbert especially enjoys taking the time to educate and guide pet owners through their pets’ medical conditions, answering questions and helping families better understand tumors, diseases, and treatment options. He believes in a compassionate, family-oriented approach and treats every patient as if they were his own.
Outside of the hospital, Dr. Gilbert enjoys gardening and spending time at the gym. Most importantly, he treasures time with his family — his wife Roselyn, daughters Thea and Lana, son Chad, and granddaughter Sofia.
Kristan
Growing up on a farm, animals were always at the center of daily life and quickly became a lifelong passion. From caring for dogs, cats, goats, chickens, cows, sheep, and water buffalo to looking after guinea pigs, rabbits, and even a turtle, he developed a deep appreciation for the unique personalities and needs of every animal. These early experiences inspired a strong commitment to veterinary medicine and a desire to provide compassionate care to animals of all sizes.
Currently working toward becoming a veterinarian, he is passionate about continuing to expand his knowledge and hands-on experience in the veterinary field. With a special interest in both large animal and companion animal medicine, he hopes to build a future where they can work with everything from family pets to farm animals, combining his rural upbringing with his dedication to animal health and welfare.
At the clinic, he enjoys connecting with both patients and pet owners, bringing patience, empathy, and enthusiasm to every interaction. He is driven by the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of animals and the people who care for them.
Outside of the clinic, he enjoys spending time in nature, studying, riding bicycles, and travelling. Whether exploring new places or enjoying the outdoors close to home, he values experiences that allow him to continue learning, growing, and staying connected to the world around him.

Sarah graduated from the University of Guelph with a Performance Horse Handler Certificate and later obtained a Veterinary Office Management Certificate from Mohawk College. She also holds a Certificate in Tick Identification and is committed to continuously expanding her knowledge through continuing education credits and professional development opportunities within the veterinary field.
Her professional interests include parasitology, internal medicine, and animal nutrition, and she enjoys helping educate clients on preventative care and overall pet wellness. Sarah’s attention to detail and dedication to both patients and pet owners make her an important part of the hospital team.

Kristy
Kristy joined the Fruitland Veterinary Hospital team in January 2018 and quickly became a valued part of the clinic with her warm personality, strong organizational skills, and dedication to client care. With more than ten years of experience in customer service management, she brought a strong background in communication, leadership, and client relations to the veterinary field.
Beginning primarily at reception, Kristy’s positive attitude and eagerness to learn allowed her to quickly expand her role into veterinary assisting. She enjoys being able to support both clients and patients throughout their visits and takes pride in helping create a welcoming and compassionate environment for pets and their families.
Outside of the clinic, Kristy loves spending quality time with her two daughters, especially singing karaoke together — with a special appreciation for 80s classics. At home, she shares her life with her three cats, Smudge, Tater, and Ernie, along with her dog Orpheus.
Calypso
Calypso joined the Fruitland Veterinary Hospital family in October 2016 after arriving at the clinic in need of extra care and support. Although she was originally not meant to stay permanently, the team quickly realized that, due to her health challenges, the clinic was the perfect place for her to call home. Calypso has since passed away, but she remains a deeply loved and unforgettable part of the Fruitland family.
As the clinic’s self-appointed Quality Control Technician, Calypso brought endless personality, entertainment, and charm to the hospital every single day. Despite being mostly blind and dealing with ongoing health issues, including IBS and chronic flatulence, she never let anything slow her down. She spent much of her time keeping Ziggy on his toes, supervising the staff, and transforming absolutely anything she could get her paws on into a toy.
Calypso was especially known for her adventurous palate and considered it her personal responsibility to taste test anything left within reach. She also had a wonderfully loud “singing voice” and took great pride in regularly reminding the staff of her vocal talents.
Though she is no longer with us, Calypso’s quirky personality, determination, and lovable attitude left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will always be remembered as a cherished member of the Fruitland Veterinary Hospital family.
Ziggy Stardust
Ziggy Stardust joined the Fruitland Veterinary Hospital family in March 2016 after arriving through a rescue program. Originally, the plan was for Ziggy to find a forever home elsewhere — but the team quickly realized he was far too lovable to let go. Needless to say, he officially became a permanent member of the clinic staff.
Since then, Ziggy has fully embraced his role as Customer Care Representative and unofficial clinic greeter. After coming out of his shell, he quickly became known for warmly welcoming everyone who walked through the door — usually by making sure they left with at least a little bit of fur on their clothing.
Ziggy’s favourite activities include sleeping in cozy spots around the clinic and soaking up as many cuddles and pets as possible from staff and visitors alike. He is famously affectionate and has an endearing habit of drooling when he is especially happy… which, according to the team, is pretty much all the time. While he may get teased about it regularly, his sweet personality and constant affection make him a beloved member of the Fruitland family.
